Florida State University System Application Tips

Living in Florida, we are lucky to have a strong state university system that offers a large array of college experiences, from small honors colleges, Historically Black colleges, to large 60,000+ student bodies. All schools offer unique programs that meet individual student's needs and goals, while providing unique, meaningful experiences. Unfortunately, every school sort of does their own thing when it comes to admissions. Half the battle is finding what each school is needing for their application and when everything is due. Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University

Ways to apply: FAMU institutional application & CollegeNet

Admission Type: Rolling, 2 recommendations & personal statement

GPA: Recalculated, core & approved academic electives, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Application Deadlines: March 1st

Application Fee: $30

Application Waivers: Attach when submitting FAMU application

 

 

Florida Atlantic University

Ways to apply: FAU online application & SSAR (coming soon)

Admission Type: Rolling, no essay

GPA: Recalculated, core & approved academic electives, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Application Deadlines: Rolling with Feb. 15th as Priority Deadline

Application Fee: $30

Application Waivers: Email copy of official waiver or fax

Florida Gulf Coast University

Ways to apply: FGCU online application

Admission Type: Rolling, no essay, recommendation for scholarships & borderline applications

GPA: core & elective, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Application Deadlines: November 15th for Merit Scholarship, Rolling with Feb. 15th Priority

Florida International University

Ways to apply: FIU online application

Admission Type: Rolling, essays for scholarships only, recommendation for scholarships only

Florida Polytechnic University

Ways to apply: Florida Polytechnic online application, SSAR, & new video (option)

Admission Type: Rolling, essay not required,

GPA: Core & elective, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Application Deadlines: November 1st (decision by Dec. 1), Rolling after January 1st upon space available

Application Fee: $30

Application Waivers: Emailed, mailed, or faxed

 

Florida State University

Ways to apply: FSU online application & SSAR

Admission Type: Deadline, FSU essay required, *Coalition App for 2017-18*

GPA:  Recalculated, all attempted core academic courses, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Application Deadlines: October 15th, Decision on Dec. 8th and March 16th

Application Fee: $30

Application Waivers: Upload in Part 2 of online application

 

New College of Florida

Ways to apply: Common Application

Admission Type: Rolling, 1 Common App essay required, one recommendation

GPA:  Recalculated, core & most academic electives, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Application Deadlines: November 1st as priority and FAFSA, April 15th guaranteed scholarship program

GPA: Recalculated, only SUS academic core, weighted

Ways to apply: Coalition for Access and Affordability application & SSAR

Admission Type: Deadline, Coalition essay required, In Coalition: complete 8-9 areas but not the Course Work or Test Scores

GPA: Recalculated, only SUS academic core, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion, November test scores latest to use

Application Deadlines: November 1st, SSAR by December 1st, FAFSA by December 15th, Decision February 10th

Application Fee: $30

Application Waivers: Respond in Coalition app to determine eligibility

 

University of North Florida

Ways to apply: UNF online application* (preferred) or paper application

Admission Type: Rolling, essay and recommendation not required but encouraged

GPA: Recalculated, SUS core and up to two academic electives, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Admission Type: Rolling, essay not required, holistic review

GPA: Core & electives, weighted

ACT/ SAT: Either, not requiring ACT writing portion

Application Deadlines:  Priority- December 1st scholarship and application, firm application June 1st, Apply by the 1st of each month- know decision by the 10th
